Our mission is to provide a comprehensive educational resource to make it easy for families to learn how to create their own outdoor adventures and to provide a forum for parents to share advice and meet other outdoor families.

We believe that there is no single right way to do any outdoor activity with your family, since all families are different and all adventures are different. By gathering advice from outdoor families across the world, our goal is to provide a range of options for families to try so they can find which works best for them, thereby enabling more families to enjoy the outdoors.

Making the transition from outdoor adventurers to outdoor parents can be tough, especially when you may not know other parents in the same situation. The first few trips can be especially tough, but just as you may have learned to love backpacking or other sports after several challenging experiences, you will find it only gets easier and much more rewarding the more you do it.

Meet the OKH Parents

We are two Silicon Valley engineers who have had a love of the outdoors since we were kids. Between us we have had adventures all over (thru-hiked the Appalachian Trail, backpacked in the Himalayas, rock climbed all over the world, completed a 6 month world trip, played in the Ultimate Frisbee World Championship, among other things). We have two small kids and love exploring the outdoors with them.

We’d Love To Hear From You!

Ask us a question or just reach out — we love to support other outdoor parents.

Transparency Policy: We are not building this website with the intent of earning any revenue from it, so we have no plans to put ads on this website. At some point we may put affiliate links to books or products we reference, but that money would only be used to cover website hosting or maintenance fees. Any extra revenue generated would be donated to an outdoor related charity and that information would be shared at the time that happens. We also currently do not plan to focus on extensive product reviews and comparisons or test out products from manufacturers. There are many bloggers out there who do a great job at that, and we will link to their reviews when needed. Instead, our goal is to provide the tools needed to choose between products. The exception would be if there are specialized products that fill certain needs, and in that case we may choose to highlight those.
